(To those who don’t know) we’re not supposed to carry them to the water because they use geomagnetic imprinting, registering the unique magnetic signature of that specific beach so they can return to lay their eggs decades later. The trek across the sand also serves as a necessary physical conditioning, helping to expand their lungs, pump blood, and strengthen their tiny flippers so they have the power to swim through heavy ocean surf. Picking them up deprives them of this crucial warmup and interferes. You can whack the ever living hell out of a seagull if they try to take the turtle but don’t carry them to the water let them get there by themselves.

picking them up breaks their magnetic field which allows them to find their way back. turtle only lay eggs where they themselves hatched. wihout that magnetic field, the turtles cannot navigate back and lay eggs
