@socalgastrodoc: All the foodborne illness outbreaks is causing me anxiety as a gastroenterologist. Did you know having an acute gastrointestinal infection increases your risk of developing IBS in the next 12 months by more than four times? Post-infectious IBS occurs in one in ten people and results in long lasting symptoms months to years after the infection is over. Learn more about the science behind IBS @ModernGut . Our IBS course launches in a few weeks #ibs #moderngut #guthealth
And the folks that will get c. diff from the treatment 😭

Beans. I grow my own lettuce, celery, peppers, tomatoes and peas. But beans are the goat. Eat your beans, people. Skip the fresh stuff at restaurants for now.

picked up a lovely disease in the hospital. Went in for dehydration, came home, 10 days later cdiff. I had it 4 times in 6 months. IBS is worse and now lactose intolerant. My gut hasn't been the same since.

Stomach flu was what messed me up 5 years ago. Life changed, constant GI issues that have got to a point that I’m scared to even go out sometimes. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone

✨ Lamarr’s Lament✨ :
This feels a little fear based to me. Foodborne illness is a real risk but it's not like it's suddenly everywhere. Cases may be up slightly but that's not some massive unusual surge like social media wants people to believe. Leaving out that most people recover just fine while promoting an IBS course doesn't sit right with me.

Me after getting giardia, still with abdominal discomfort, occasional pain and bloating months after eradicating it. Yet, my gastro had me do another bunch of exams because he couldn't simply tell me it was post-infectious IBS :)))
