This is Mercy, a little over a month ago is when we first learned about her at the dumping grounds. At that time, she looked like she might be pregnant or possibly in heat, so multiple people were trying to safely catch her so we could get her in for a spay. But Mercy wanted absolutely nothing to do with anyone. She would disappear into hiding the second she realized someone was watching her. Traps didn’t work. And every time she resurfaced, her belly had gotten bigger. Last Sunday, someone sent us a video of Mercy, and it was obvious she was not just pregnant, she looked like she was in labor. And sure enough, the very next day she gave birth. Unfortunately, one of her puppies was run over the day after she delivered. Some incredibly kind people stepped in immediately and gathered her remaining puppies, placing them in a kiddie pool and a crate to keep them safe and contained. A house near the dumping grounds even gave us permission to keep the crate with the puppies on their property so the babies wouldn’t be left out in the open where they were originally found. Mercy still won’t let anyone close enough to actually catch her, but the people caring for her are slowly earning her trust. She’s being fed puppy food, wet food, and as much as she needs to stay strong while she nurses her babies. As soon as she’s ready to surrender herself and accept help, we’re ready to take her into foster care. We already have a rescue partner lined up who will assist with getting her out of the RGV, along with every one of her puppies. But we truly can’t do any of this alone. We need help with food, supplies, and monetary donations for flea and tick prevention, dewormer, and everything this little family will need.
