@farmlifewithjesse: Our rescue journey started with Tennessee, our very first save from shipping to slaughter. Arte and I saw her photo one night, and something just pulled at my heart. She had less than 24 hours before she’d be gone forever. One phone call changed everything. Not long after she arrived, we found out Tennessee was pregnant. Looking back, I think that was a sign — the start of something bigger we didn’t even realize yet. I truly believe the universe had this plan for us and for our farm all along. Then came Oakley. She was older and pregnant, and after a tough delivery she crossed the rainbow bridge, leaving behind the sweetest little gift — Stevie. Her time with us was short, but she changed our lives. Because of Stevie, our mission shifted. We now focus on pregnant mares and orphaned foals, the ones who need us most. 💔 Almost 20,000 American horses were shipped for slaughter last year (those are ONLY the ones documented). Most were healthy, and many were pregnant. This is the part of the horse world no one wants to see, but it’s real, and it needs to change. We’re growing our rescue right now — building barn space and stalls so we can help even more mamas and babies. Until then, we’re working with other rescues to place horses that are still on a deadline. There are SO MANY great horses waiting for a chance.
