The old Army wasn't soft. Those soldiers went through harder training, lived in rougher conditions, handled complaints through the chain of command, and proved their toughness in Panama, Desert Storm, Mogadishu, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Today's Army still has a lot of tough soldiers, but it's also a generation where it's common to see troops on TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube complaining about leaders, barracks, food, PT, and everyday Army life. Nobody's saying every young soldier is like that. But pretending the old Army was the soft one turns history upside down.

Old military vets took the abuse and still put in 20 years. The new military feel like they are entitled to get certain jobs and get what they want.

We wasn’t soft!! We actually had conex that we would go in with boxing gloves and go at it for 5 mins. You could call anyone out that was E7 and below.

I never got touched in 2001 but it was waaayyy harder and more disciplined then than now. Now it’s soft as butter cups

Nah I have undisciplined soldiers that let my kindness affect their work. They take advantage of me being lenient and they stay on their phone instead of knocking out tasks. When I started putting my foot down and I started punishing them things started to get better.

Served from 82 to 02. No one ever laid a hand on anyone, not in the Army anyway. What time frame are you referring to? I think when older veterans say the new military is soft they are referring to other things.

I joined in 1987 and was never touched. Most people who say that are likely not be truthful. I was an 11B Paratrooper. I think the lack standards in that MOS may come back to bit us.

Wall to wall counseling was a two way street. If you were a NCO that could not fight you would get beat up by the E4 and below thats why the Army did away with it. Moreover, what you are referring to is Vietnam ear. The post Vietnam all volunteer force did not play that game. A lot of NCO in the 80’s found themselves unconscious. I know because I was there 1982-2012. The Army did not change to save you it changed to save its Vietnam ear NCOs who were getting their ass handed to them. The wood line was a mutual combatant zone were problems were solved

back in 1989 in west Germany 🇩🇪 my company spent three months in the feild 😂 we would do late night 🌙 night 🌙 moves with our military 🪖 trucks 🚚 sometimes 3 times in one night. then when we got to our final night 🌙 move we would set up everything including the cammo nets over the trucks 🚚 and 20 man tents ⛺️. and the mkt feild mess trailer. 😂 then we would go help the Hawk Missles techs set up all their equipment. in the middle of the winter time with freezing 🥶 rain 🌧 snow ❄️😂
