Im currently getting my 125cc license, but I’ve driven (manual) cars for years. My teacher at the first lesson said to basically don’t focus at the rpm and just hear and feel when to shift. I found that absolutely correct and very intuitive after just the first few shifts, just like in a car. I can just feel it and thus I feel more in control and safer.
