Me to the next guy… “you want $300 to cover my on call?” Boss would get pissed. However, I had young kids.

guys would also call me and ask if I could take the call or come help. I've started telling everyone, Please call me and I'll walk you thru or help you bounce ideas off but I can't come out.

Its called work life balance. Devalue companies who treat you this way. Good techs don’t have problems finding good jobs

On top of this, motivating people on to why it’s necessary and how much you are helping the people you’re serving. Your expertise and drive are what’s being valued. The sacrifice may not be understood, but the people you help will appreciate it. Also, teach people to teach and create exponential tech growth.

Been on call for the last 6 years. Large company but in the only tech in my area. My office is 2.5 hours away. It’s kinda like I have my own little company. They send installers from the main office for change outs.

My shift is 12pm - 11pm four days a week. This is a terrible way to live. I don’t recommend working after hours. Customers are horrible and dispatchers are entitled. Don’t work for anyone with 24/7 service.
