@anmol44758: Albina Mali-Hočevar was born in 1925 in the village of Vinica, Slovenia, into a working-class family with eight children. After her father died in 1934, she temporarily left school to help support her family before completing her education in 1941. Following the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia, she joined the Yugoslav Partisans, first serving as a courier carrying secret messages between resistance groups, then as a nurse, and eventually as a frontline fighter. During the war, Albina was wounded three times. On September 15, 1943, shortly after her 18th birthday, a mine exploded during the Battle of Turjak, causing severe injuries to her face and eye. After months of treatment in Partisan hospitals, she returned to active service in late 1944 and continued caring for wounded soldiers and displaced children until the war ended. After the conflict, she settled in Maribor, where she remained active in veterans' organizations until her death on January 24, 2001, at the age of 75.
