Have you ever wondered why Nepal is sometimes called “Sati Le Sarapeko Desh” — The Land Cursed by Sati? According to a popular Nepali legend, Kaji Bhim Malla was a powerful and respected figure during the Malla period. He is traditionally remembered for helping Nepal strengthen its trade and relations with Tibet. But after returning from Tibet, Bhim Malla reportedly became the target of jealousy and palace politics. He was accused of wrongdoing and was eventually executed despite his contributions to the country. His wife, Bhuvan Laxmi Malla, was devastated. According to the legend, she later went sati with her husband's body. Before entering the funeral pyre, she is said to have cursed the royal court and Nepal. One traditional version of the curse is: “May those who wish to do good for this country never prosper.” Another traditional account records the curse more ... Another traditional account records the curse more specifically as: "May wisdom never prevail in this royal court." Over generations, the story became connected with Nepal's repeated political struggles, tragedies, and disasters. Whenever something terrible happens, people sometimes repeat: "सतीले सरापेको देश।" But was Nepal really cursed? The story is best understood as a powerful historical legend and cultural belief that has survived for generations. A curse... a betrayal... and a story that Nepal still remembers. - All footage used in this video is copyright-free/ royalty-free and used for this edit.
