If you had color coded binders, different color highlighters for your notes, and always had everything submitted days before a deadline go to ICU. If you cram things in your backpack, wait until 1159 to submit something, and have no idea where your debit card is because you have Apple Pay, the ED is for you 😂😂

I don’t know why the ED nurses are saying they could never do ICU…cause we do that already! We do tele, med surg, ICU, Peds, mental health…before they go upstairs they’re with us…ED does it alllll

All joking aside, most of us ED nurses would drown trying to keep up with ICU meticulous charting and tasks, and ICU would drown with our crazy non sedated patients and constant unknowns. We make a good team for the best care though!

I figured out I was built for the icu when I started picking up after everyone in the ED while shadowing. I had a doctor come up to me and say your an icu nurse not an ED nurse if you’re doing that 😅

I think it comes down to personality. Both are equally heavy and insane at times but there is no high in the world to me like having my patients fully scrubbed, lined, labeled and organized. When all the i’s are dotted and all the t’s are crossed. And that’s the icu. And I’ve seen how the ER personality hates the ICU. It’s all about finding your fit

Former ED and it’s true! I love the ICU it’s so much easier task/time management wise. My critical thinking is challenged more but I have the time to actually learn about my patients now.
