Looking for ways to mitigate future flooding disasters after Hurricane Ida, New York City installed two new basketball courts that double as “sponges” to retain water during a flash flood. Installed during Eric Adams’ mayoral administration, the Water Square court transformed once-derelict courts into a dual-purpose amenity for the surrounding community.
