I’ve worked in elementary schools for 20 years and there have been 2-3 selective mute students- it’s an anxiety disorder

My daughter is the same at her school she literally doesn’t talk to her teachers to nobody BECAUSE SHE DOESNT WANT TO I asked her and she says that. It’s us adults that push them to talk instead of being understanding.

Yeah I am the youngest and didn’t really talk until I was like 11/12. They just put my twin in all my classes because that was the only way to possibly get a response

Same they thought I couldn’t speak and they thought I was deaf cause most of the time I wouldn’t turn my head when they’re were speaking to me till one day I talked and looked at my dad when he said my name 🤣🤣🤣

I had to redo kindergarten for the same reason. Teacher said they were shocked I could speak. Thought I couldn’t because I never said a word at school.
