My advice to any recovering maga people is you do NOT actually have to come out in public and accept all that scrutiny. What i would say is the bare minimum is to change how you vote and change how you assert yourself in political conversations with those around you. Stand firm in your newfound values and try to help others along that new path. If you do that and keep being inquisitive and learning, pretty soon you’ll be a completely new person with a fuller outlook on life.

I was never MAGA, but I did vote for trump in 2016. Within 6 months I realized that was a huge mistake, and did just what you said. Tried to figure out how I got to that spot, and realized it was Evangelical Christianity. I deconstructed my faith because I was the Jesus Freak as a kid and I followed Jesus right out the church doors. I have learned so much in my deconstruction and continue to learn. But I also try and remember that no one is immune from propaganda and give people grace, but it is so hard considering I left, and I realized what was going on, why can’t you.
