Well if we look at real life, back in the day the poor was the ones who uses seasonings, the rich conquered land for it when they found out how good it was. and then Britian took a hard right and went into food puritism to separate themselves from the poor

They were already colourfull during 50th games, like 40 years later....districts couldnt aford that much of a colour, and dyes are expensive soo it was power move, hair dye etc

I feel like the excessively bright and unnatural colors kinda hint to like French royalty having extreme paint colors on their walls just because the more unnatural, the more expensive it was and the capital kinda brings that “let them have cake” energy
