Purple is a lot of red and a lot of blue. In the spectrum this should land somewhere in green. Obviously we have cones to detect green but in this case green is absent. Purple is the brains error code for 'not green'.

if you're a traditional artist primary colors exist because pigments work a certain way that you cannot mix any colors to give you magenta cyan and yellow, but you can mix those three to give you the others if you work with light, it's red blue and green, bacuse the light adds together to give you the other colors

there’s a common trick in which someone denies the existence of something using a very specific definition that clashes with the common definition. For example, “there’s no such thing as a fish“, which I understand was first promulgated by Stephen J Gould. Upon hearing that, everyone on earth, save a few icthyologists, will scream “what about salmon? Cod? Mackerel?” A smug know-it-all will say “no they’re not fish“, and go on to point out that scientists cannot create a consistent and coherent definition of what non-scientists call “ fish”. I was disappointed to watch this particular video, because it starts as a genuinely interesting question: why do artists use multidimensional representations of color space, while scientists use a linear one? And then proceeds, via “there is no such thing as purple“ click bait to the less interesting conclusion that humans only have receptors in their eyes for three general wavelengths. I would actually like to know the answer to the interesting question.

Magenta is what happens in the brain when there’s long and short (blue and red cones fire) wavelengths but nothing in the middle. Magenta is «the absence of green» so to speak.

Simple answer: you can't make yellow paint from red blue green but you can make green from yellow and blue

Scientist refer to light, which is additive RGB(C) is the primary for light. G and B additive colors lighten (add) to yellow. Artist use paint which are subtractive. But we use two primaries RBY and CMY. B and Y subtractive colors darken (subtract) to green

a colour wheel also shows you opposite colours so if you want blue to pop you use it's opposite on the wheel orange.

Additive primary colors when working with light are red, green and blue, subtractive when working with paint are cyan, magenta and yellow. Red, yellow and blue are wrong, outdated understanding of color mixing.

light add colours while paint substract red paint will absorb green and blue and reflect red light while red and green light gives yellow.

many artists also dont like the color well or agree on how its done, i heard some people say that its pink that doesnt exist tecnically instead purple but that's just semantics
