@_mkxlschtt: Long before either of the two girls was born, their fathers were already the best of friends. They did everything together, shared every big secret, and spent countless hours talking about the future. Naturally, they both wished for the exact same thing: when they grew up and had families, they wanted their children to be as close as brothers or sisters. They hoped their kids would share the same unbreakable bond that had kept the two men side-by-side through all the years of their own youth. When Lena was born, her father, Mr. Schuett, was filled with joy. Three years later, Mr. Taechamong welcomed his little girl, Miu, into the world. Right from the moment Miu was just a tiny baby, the two fathers made sure the girls spent as much time together as possible. Every weekend, every holiday, and every free afternoon, the two families would meet up. As babies, Lena and Miu shared playpens and baby toys. As toddlers, they learned to walk in the same backyards and shared their afternoon snacks. Now, Lena was eight years old, and Miu was five. Even though Lena was three years older, Miu followed her everywhere like a little shadow. Where Lena walked, Miu ran behind. What Lena picked up, Miu wanted to hold too. On this warm afternoon, the two families had spent the entire day together at the Schuett home. The girls had spent hours playing in the garden, drawing pictures on the living room floor, and sharing sweet treats. But the afternoon had quietly slipped into evening, and it was finally time for the Taechamong family to head back to their own house. Everyone was standing outside on the front porch near the car. The sun was going down, painting the sky in deep shades of orange and pink. The front door was pulled shut, and the engine of Mr. Taechamong's car was waiting to be turned on. "Baby, we have to go home now," Mr. Taechamong said in a soft, gentle voice as he kneeled down next to his little girl. He had already said this exact same sentence at least five or six times inside the house. He had said it while packing up Miu's small backpack, he had said it while helping her slip her shoes on, and he was saying it again now. But every single time he said it, Miu simply shook her head and refused to listen. Miu stood tightly on the paved driveway, her tiny fingers wrapped completely around Lena’s right hand. She held on so hard that her knuckles were almost white. Soft tears were already rolling down Miu's chubby cheeks, and small, shaky gasps came from her chest. She refused to take even one single step toward her father's car. Lena, on the other hand, was a very quiet eight-year-old child. She was the kind of kid who rarely cried, rarely raised her voice, and almost never showed what she was feeling on the inside. People often called her cool, calm, or distant. While Miu was a storm of big feelings, Lena was like a still pool of water. Right now, Lena just stood there quietly in her sneakers, her hand trapped inside Miu's tight grip. She blinked her dark eyes, looking down at the crying five-year-old beside her. She had no idea what to do, what to say, or how to fix the situation. Her little face remained calm and blank, but her eyes showed a small hint of confusion as she watched her little playmate cry. Mr. Taechamong reached out a hand, his heart breaking just a little bit at his daughter's sadness. "Baby—" he started again, hoping to soothe her. "I wanna stay with Lale!!" >continuation in the comments #lenamiu #lalinalena #miunatsha #oneshot #fyp

Miu suddenly screamed at the top of her lungs, using her special baby nickname for Lena.
The loud scream burst through the quiet evening air. Right after shouting, Miu squeezed her eyes shut and began to sob even harder, her whole body shaking as heavy tears poured down her face.
She pulled Lena's hand even closer against her own chest, clinging to her older friend like a lifeline.
The sudden scream stunned everyone standing in the driveway. Mr. Taechamong froze with his hand still stretched out in the air.
Lena’s father, Mr. Schuett, blinked in surprise, stopping mid-step on the porch. Even quiet little Lena opened her eyes a little wider, shocked by how loud and fierce Miu's little voice could be when she was upset.
The small driveway went completely silent for a moment, except for the sound of Miu’s noisy, weeping breaths.
Finally, Mr. Taechamong let out a long, slow sigh. He rubbed the back of his neck with one hand, looking down at his sweet, stubborn daughter with a mix of soft affection and total helplessness.
He really wanted to go home, but he also hated seeing his little girl so heartbroken over leaving her best friend.
Beside him, Mr. Schuett broke the silence. A wide grin spread across his face, and he let out a rich, warm laugh that echoed around the yard.
He shook his head and crossed his arms over his chest, looking at his lifelong best friend with a funny, knowing look.
"Well, you can't really complain now," Mr. Schuett said with a soft chuckle, teasing his friend as he pointed toward the two little girls who were still attached at the hand.
"It was your idea first to make them be together all the time!"
Mr. Taechamong couldn't help but laugh a little bit too, even as he shook his head and rubbed his forehead.
He looked at Mr. Schuett, then looked down at his crying daughter, who was still holding onto Lena’s hand as if her life depended on it.
"You're not helping, you know," Mr. Taechamong said.
"I created a monster. She loves your house more than her own home!"

"Daddy, can I? Can I have a sleepover with Lale?!"
Mr. Taechamong sighed, but his eyes were filled with love. He looked at Mr. Schuett and shook his head with a grin.
"You just gave her exactly what she wanted, you know that right?"
"Hey, it gets her into your car without a full breakdown," Mr. Schuett laughed, standing back up.
"I call that a win for everyone."
Mr. Taechamong looked down at his daughter.
"Only if you are a good girl all week, Miu. You have to go to preschool without complaining, finish your vegetables, and put your shoes away every day. If you do all of that, then yes, you can sleep over here on Friday."
Miu's face lit up as if someone had turned on a bright light inside her. The sad, crying little girl vanished in an instant, replaced by a bouncing, excited five-year-old.
"I will! I will eat all the broccoli! Even the dark green ones!" Miu promised loudly.
She finally let go of Lena's hand, but only so she could wrap both of her small arms around Lena's waist in a tight, sudden hug. She squeezed the eight-year-old girl with all her strength.
"I'm coming back on Friday, Lale! We're gonna make a castle!"
Lena stood stiffly inside the tight hug, her arms hanging slightly awkward at her sides for a second before she lightly patted Miu's back twice.
"Okay, Miu. Go to the car now."
Miu pulled back, wiped her face one last time with the back of her hand, and happily trotted over to her father's car, completely forgetting that just two minutes ago she was screaming at the top of her lungs.
Mr. Taechamong picked her up, lifted her into her car seat, and buckled her in safely. Before closing the car door, he turned back to look at Mr. Schuett and Lena.
"Thank you," Mr. Taechamong said, giving his best friend a grateful nod.
"I don't know what I'm going to do with her as she gets older. She's so stubborn."
"She gets it from you," Mr. Schuett replied smoothly, crossing his arms with a laugh.
"And don't worry. Lena will keep her in line. Or Miu will drag Lena into trouble. It's fifty-fifty at this point."

"She doesn't love my house," Mr. Schuett corrected, leaning back against the wooden railing of the porch with his hands in his pockets.
"She just loves her Lale. Look at them. You could offer Miu a giant box of new toys right now, and she still wouldn't let go of that hand."
Down on the driveway, Miu’s little shoulders were still rising and falling with heavy gasps. Her small nose was red, and wet tears were dripping off her chin onto her shirt.
Every few seconds, she would let out a small, miserable hiccup. But despite all the crying, her small fingers never loosened their hold on Lena’s hand.
In fact, every time her father took a half-step closer, Miu would pull Lena’s hand even tighter against her chest, as if she could pull Lena right into her own tiny body.
Lena remained very still. She was not the type of kid to jump around or throw tantrums, and she usually didn't know how to handle big feelings—neither her own nor other people's.
But she looked down at Miu, whose face was completely messy from crying. Lena felt a small, warm tug in her chest. She didn't like noise, and she certainly didn't like people screaming in the driveway, but she also didn't like seeing Miu this sad.
Slowly, without saying a word, Lena used her free hand to reach into the pocket of her shorts. She pulled out a small, folded tissue that her mother had given her earlier in the day.
With very careful, quiet movements, Lena raised the tissue and gently pressed it against Miu's wet cheek. She wiped away the tears on the left side, then carefully wiped the right side.
Miu’s loud crying suddenly quieted down into small, sniffing sounds. She opened her swollen, wet eyes and looked up at Lena through her dark eyelashes.
"Don't cry, Miu," Lena said.
Her voice was very quiet, almost like a whisper, but it was steady and plain.
"You're making a big mess."
It wasn't a super romantic or grand thing to say, but for Lena, it was a lot. She rarely spoke unless an adult asked her a direct question.
Miu sniffed loudly, wiping her nose on her sleeve.

"But... but I don't wanna go home, Lale," she whimpered.
"I wanna stay here with you. We didn't finish building the block castle. And you said we could draw more cats tomorrow."
"Tomorrow is Monday. You have preschool," Lena explained logically, her face still calm and unbothered.
"And I have real school."
"I don't care about preschool!" Miu declared, stomping one of her tiny sneakers against the ground.
"I wanna stay with you!"
Up on the porch, the two fathers watched the interaction with warm, amused eyes.
"See what I mean?" Mr. Taechamong said to Mr. Schuett, throwing his hands up in gentle defeat.
"She’s five years old, but she has a lawyer's mind when she wants something. How am I supposed to drag her into the car when she looks at me like I'm taking her to prison?"
Mr. Schuett chuckled and walked down the small wooden steps of the porch. He stopped a few feet away from the two girls and crouched down so he was at eye level with little Miu.
"Hey, little one," Mr. Schuett said softly, offering Miu a warm, friendly smile.
"How about a compromise?"
Miu stopped sniffing for a second, her big eyes looking at Lena's father with suspicion.
"What's a com-pro-mise?" she asked slowly, stumbling over the big word.
"It means a fair deal," Mr. Schuett said, pointing toward the orange sky above them.
"The sun is going down, and your daddy needs to go home and eat dinner, just like Lena and I need to eat dinner. But... if you go home nicely right now with your daddy, without any more crying or screaming..." He paused, making a dramatic face to build suspense.
Miu leaned in slightly, still holding Lena's hand.
"What?"
"...then I will talk to your daddy, and next Friday night, you can come over for a full sleepover," Mr. Schuett finished with a wink.
"You can stay the whole night, eat pancakes for breakfast on Saturday morning, and build the biggest block castle in the world with Lena."
Miu’s eyes went wide. The wet tears on her cheeks were instantly forgotten.
"A sleepover?!" she gasped, looking up at her father to see if this magic offer was real.

"I'm not moving!" Miu giggled softly, though she kept her body completely frozen so Lena could rest.
Around them, a few students walked by, glancing at the senior and freshman on the bench.
Everyone in the school knew that Lena Schuett was cold, distant, and impossible to get close to—a quiet prodigy who rarely spoke to anyone.
But everyone also knew that if Miu Taechamong was around, Lena transformed into a completely different person.
Miu looked down at Lena’s calm, peaceful face.
Gone was the strict, serious expression Lena wore in class; here, resting on Miu's shoulder, she just looked like the girl who used to wipe Miu's tears with a folded tissue on the driveway all those years ago.
Miu gently raised her free hand and used her fingers to lightly brush a stray strand of dark hair away from Lena's forehead.
"Sleep for twenty minutes, Lale," Miu whispered softly.
"I'll wake you up before the bell rings."
Lena didn't answer with words this time.
She simply reached out blindly, her fingers finding Miu's hand on her lap, and wrapped her long, cool fingers tightly around Miu's small hand—just like Miu used to hold onto hers when they were little.
And with Miu holding her steady, Lena finally let out a deep breath and drifted fast asleep.

The high school hallway during the final ten minutes before the dismissal bell was always an absolute zoo.
Loud voices echoed off the long rows of tall metal lockers, sneakers squeaked continuously against the freshly waxed floors, and students pushed through the crowds in eager clusters to pack away their heavy textbooks.
Near the center of the hallway, right beside the wide staircase, Miu was standing in a small circle with her two closest freshman friends, Bam and Orm.
The three of them were in the middle of a lively, animated conversation about their upcoming weekend plans and a difficult history project that was due the following week.
"I swear, if Mr. Santos gives us another five-page essay over the weekend, I am going to lose my mind," Bam said, dramatically tossing her backpack onto one shoulder and rolling her eyes toward the ceiling.

To the rest of the school, Lena was the calm, icy prodigy who walked down the halls in quiet solitude.
But to Miu, she was just... Lena.
After the initial shock wore off, a soft, affectionate smile washed across Miu’s face. The sudden weight on her back felt entirely familiar, comforting, and warm.
She let out a quiet, melodic chuckle and gently reached up with her right hand, running her fingers through Lena’s soft hair and patting the top of her head with easy, practiced comfort.
"What is it, Lale?" Miu asked softly.
Miu slowly began to turn around inside Lena's loose hold, rotating her body until she was standing face-to-face with the tall senior.
Lena didn't bother stepping back; instead, she just lowered her head down even further, resting her chin heavily against Miu's left shoulder, her long arms now draped casually around Miu’s back.
Her dark eyes were barely half-open, heavy with exhaustion, and her usually sharp, pristine posture was entirely gone.
Lena let out a long, quiet sigh that blew a tiny gust of warm air against Miu’s collarbone.
"I'm sleepy," Lena mumbled, her deep voice muffled against the fabric of Miu’s school uniform blazer.
"Let's go home."
Bam and Orm exchanged another rapid glance, both of them holding their breath in utter disbelief at how blatantly Lena was ignoring their presence.
"Lale, the bell hasn't even rung yet," Miu whispered with a soft giggle, though her hands automatically moved to rest gently on Lena’s waist to help support her weight.
"There are still like five minutes left of the final period."
"Don't care," Lena grumbled lazily, refusing to lift her head off Miu's shoulder.
"My last teacher let us leave early. I put my bag in your locker already. Come on, Miu. I want to take a nap, and your dad said he's picking us up today."
Miu looked over at her two friends, who were still standing there looking completely bewildered. Miu gave them an apologetic, slightly embarrassed grin, though her eyes were shining with fond warmth.

"See this part right here? You don't multiply it directly yet. First, you have to find the common factor in the polynomial, factor it out, and then apply the quadratic formula to the remaining terms! If you do it in that order, the whole equation simplifies so much faster."
Bam stared at the paper, squinting as if looking at a foreign language.
"Wait, but why did you flip the sign on the third step? Doesn't the negative inside the parenthesis make it positive when you move it across the equal sign?"
"No, because the entire set of terms is inside the absolute value brackets!" Miu insisted, waving her pencil in the air to emphasize her point.
"The absolute value keeps it unchanged until you solve the inner binomial first!"
Orm groaned loudly, dropping her head onto her arms on the table.
"Miu, my brain is literally melting into my soup. How do you even remember all these steps?"
Miu grinned, full of confidence, but then paused for just a fraction of a second. She wanted to be absolute certain she hadn't missed a tiny logical step in her explanation.
Naturally, her eyes flicked right over to the girl sitting directly beside her.
Lena was sitting tall and quiet on Miu's left side. As usual, she looked like she was existing in her own completely private universe.
She was wearing her oversized blue sweater over her crisp school uniform, one hand holding a spoon as she carefully ate her warm bowl of soup, while her other hand gently turned the page of an advanced university-level calculus textbook resting flat beside her tray.
She was completely absorbed in her reading, her long dark lashes cast downward, her face a mask of total concentration and quiet calm.
She hadn't said a single word in twenty minutes.
Miu leaned over slightly, nudging her shoulder against Lena's arm, her voice full of pride and easy affection.
"Am I right, Lale?" Miu asked, turning her bright smile toward the senior.
Lena didn't even blink. Her spoon hovered near her mouth for a second before she quietly blew on it and took a slow bite, her dark eyes remaining firmly glued to the small font of her calculus book.

"I already have two math worksheets to finish, and my mom wants me to help her with groceries on Saturday morning."
Orm giggled, clutching her binders close to her chest as she nodded in complete agreement.
"Same here! But honestly, Miu is the lucky one. She has Lena to help her study for every single test. Lena probably knows the entire textbook by heart!"
Miu laughed brightly, her cheerful voice carrying over the noisy background chatter of the hallway.
"Hey, Lena is a strict teacher, okay? She doesn't just give me the answers! She makes me sit at the desk for two straight hours until I memorize every single historical date myself."
"Still, having the top senior in school as your personal tutor is basically a superpower," Bam teased, nudging Miu playfully with her elbow.
Before Miu could reply, a sudden, quiet presence swept up behind her.
Without a single word of warning, a heavy weight slouched forward and rested directly onto Miu’s right shoulder from behind.
A long arm snaked loosely around Miu's waist for balance, and a pair of soft, dark locks of hair brushed right against the sensitive skin of Miu’s cheek and neck.
Miu gasped in surprise, her breath catching in her throat as she froze completely in place.
Bam and Orm both stopped mid-sentence, their eyes widening in total shock as they stared at the scene unfolding right in front of them.
Standing behind Miu, slumped over like a tired, half-asleep giant, was none other than Lena Schuett.
The senior student who was famous throughout the entire high school for being fiercely independent, completely untouchable, and perpetually aloof was currently hanging off Miu like a oversized, lazy koala bear.
"Uh..." Orm stammered out, her jaw practically dropping to the floor.
She slowly turned her head to look at Bam with a wild, confused expression that asked, Is this actually happening right now?
Bam returned the look, her eyes just as big, before both of them turned their gazes back to the two girls in front of them.
Nobody in their grade ever saw Lena act like this with anyone else.

She was so deep in her own head that Miu's voice hadn't even registered as words—it was just comfortable, familiar background noise to her.
Sitting right across from Lena was her own senior friend, Lingling, a sharp-eyed girl with a playful smirk who had been watching the entire exchange over her own glass of iced tea.
Lingling let out a amused quiet laugh, reaching across the corner of the table to firmly nudge Lena’s elbow with her knuckles.
"Hey, wake up," Lingling said, chuckling at her friend's total lack of awareness.
"She asked you something."
Lena blinked, startled out of her deep trance. Her head snapped up slightly, her dark eyes darting from Lingling's teasing grin down to Miu, who was looking up at her with big, expectant brown eyes, pencil still raised in mid-air.
A rare flicker of complete confusion washed over Lena's usually stoic face. She hadn't heard a single word of the math explanation.
She didn't even know what subject they were discussing. But looking at Miu's eager, hopeful expression, Lena didn't hesitate for even a microsecond.
"Huh? Uh... yes," Lena said quickly.
Across the table, Bam and Orm instantly let out a synchronized, loud sigh and rolled their eyes so hard it looked like it physically hurt.
"Oh, come on!" Bam declared, tossing her eraser onto the table in total disbelief.
"Senior Lena, you didn't hear a single word she said! She could have said two plus two equals forty-two and you still would have said yes!"
"She really is completely biased," Orm agreed, shaking her head as she covered her face with both hands.
"Miu could literally explain that the sun rises in the west and Lena would sign a legal contract agreeing with her."
Lingling burst into a loud, clear laugh, leaning back in her chair.
"I told you, guys. Lena’s brain has two modes: high-level mathematics and whatever Miu is currently saying. She doesn't even filter it!"
A light flush of pink touched the tips of Lena’s ears as she realized she had been caught red-handed. She quietly cleared her throat, shifted in her seat, and finally closed her heavy textbook with a soft thud.

She immediately caught sight of the stack of algebra papers, calculators, and open workbooks cluttering Miu's side of the table. Oom raised an eyebrow, looking from Miu's bright, energetic face to Lena's completely calm one.
"Are you guys still doing math during lunch?" Oom asked, shaking her head with a light chuckle.
"Miu, don't let Lena trick you into studying on your break. She does enough of that for all four of us combined."
"Hey! I was actually teaching Bam and Orm!" Miu announced proudly, pointing her mechanical pencil toward her two exhausted friends sitting beside her.
Bam tossed her hands in the air.
"Yeah, and Miu almost convinced us until we realized Lena is just nodding along to whatever Miu says without even listening!"
Tan burst into a laugh, opening her water bottle.
"Wait, Lena did the automatic nod again? I thought she only did that when she was half-asleep."
"She is half-asleep," Lingling chimed in, grinning as she pointed her fork at Lena.
"She was deep into her university calculus book. Miu asked if her algebra was right, and Lena literally just said 'yes' without looking up. I had to poke her!"
Oom broke into a wide grin, leaning across the table to give Lena a playful look.
"Unbelievable. The top senior in our class, completely defeated by a freshman."
Lena quietly took a sip of her water, totally unfazed by the teasing.
She reached over with one hand and casually pulled Miu's algebra worksheet closer to her side of the table, her eyes scanning the steps line by line just to double-check.
"Her solution was right anyway," Lena said simply, her tone entirely unbothered as she handed the paper back to Miu.
"She doesn't need me to check it."
Miu beamed, taking the paper back with a triumphant look at Bam and Orm.
"See! I told you guys! Now come on, finish problem number four before the bell rings, or we're all going to be stuck doing it during homeroom!"
Bam and Orm let out another synchronized groan, dragging their heads off the table to pick up their pencils, while the four seniors laughed, settling into their lunch together in the noisy, warm cafeteria.

The terrifying, emotionless mask on Miu’s face melted away in a split second. A smug, completely satisfied grin spread across her cheeks, her bright eyes twinkling with victory as she crossed her arms again, nodding approvingly.
"Good!" Miu said happily, her voice bright and cheerful once more.
Lena let out a massive, dramatic sigh of relief, dropping her head forward against Miu’s shoulder with a soft thud.
"You are going to give me a heart attack one of these days," Lena mumbled into Miu's sweater, her voice muffled as her long arms wrapped securely around Miu's waist.
Miu giggled softly, wrapping her arms around Lena's neck and resting her chin on top of Lena's dark hair, thoroughly enjoying the rare sight of her cool, calm senior completely flustered just for her.
Lena kept her face buried in the crook of Miu’s neck for a few seconds longer, taking a slow, deep breath of the familiar strawberry scent that had comforted her for as long as she could remember.
The frantic beating of her own heart slowly began to settle back into its usual steady rhythm.
Miu’s soft giggles vibrated right against Lena's chest.
She gently patted the back of Lena’s head, her fingers weaving through the dark strands of hair just like she used to do back in high school whenever her cool, aloof girlfriend needed a moment to recharge.
"You really panicked there, didn't you, Lale?" Miu teased softly.
Lena finally lifted her head, her dark eyes looking down into Miu’s bright, mischievous ones.
Even after all these years—from playdates in the living room, to sleepy afternoons on high school benches, to sharing a quiet apartment building as adults—Miu still had the absolute power to completely unravel her with just a single look.
"I didn't panic," Lena lied smoothly.
"I was just... testing your reaction."
Miu burst out laughing, a clear, ringing sound that carried over the quiet evening park.
"Right. 'Testing my reaction.' Is that why you yelled 'you're my precious bubbie' so loud that the old couple over by the bench turned around to look at us?"

Lena’s eyes were completely closed, her dark eyelashes resting softly against her pale skin. Her breath was slow and even, her quiet, nonchalant energy wrapping around them like a heavy blanket.
"You're always sleepy," Miu murmured softly, taking another bite of her rice.
She didn't move her shoulder an inch, making sure to stay as still and steady as possible so Lena wouldn't lose her balance.
Even though Miu liked to tease her, she secretly loved these quiet moments. Back when they were little kids, Lena was always the calm, steady rock while Miu was the one running around, screaming, and throwing tantrums.
But now, in the busy, loud halls of high school, Lena seemed to lower all her guard only when she was right next to Miu.
Lena didn't open her eyes. She didn't even shift her weight. She just let out a low, sleepy hum from the back of her throat that vibrated against Miu’s shoulder.
"Late night," Lena muttered, her voice thick and raspy with fatigue.
"Studying for finals."
"You always study too much, Lale," Miu said with a gentle sigh, leaning her head down just a little bit so her cheek brushed against Lena’s soft hair.
"You're already the top student in your class. If you keep pushing yourself like this, you're going to turn into a complete zombie before graduation."
"Already a zombie," Lena mumbled back, her lips barely moving.
"You're just my comfortable pillow."
Miu couldn't help the bright, warm smile that spread across her face. She carefully picked up a small piece of rolled omelet with her chopsticks, turning her head slightly toward the sleeping girl on her shoulder.
"Hey, Zombie," Miu whispered playfully.
"Open your mouth."
Without opening her eyes, Lena let out a tiny, defeated sigh, but obediently parted her lips just a little.
Miu carefully fed her the piece of egg, watching with a fond grin as Lena slowly chewed and swallowed without ever lifting her head.
"Good?" Miu asked gently.
"Mmh," Lena replied, settling her head even deeper into the crook of Miu's neck, breathing in the familiar, comforting scent of Miu's watermelon shampoo.
"Do not move."

"See you on Friday then," Mr. Taechamong said, waving as he walked around to the driver's side.
As the car slowly rolled down the driveway, the rear window rolled down, and a tiny hand stuck out, waving frantically back and forth.
"Bye Lale! Bye Uncle Schuett! See you on Friday!" Miu's voice echoed down the quiet street.
Mr. Schuett waved back until the red taillights vanished around the corner. Then, he looked down at his daughter, who was still standing in the exact same spot on the driveway, staring quietly down the road where the car had disappeared.
"You okay, Lena?" her father asked gently, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"She really loves you, you know."
Lena looked up at her father. Her face was calm, and her voice was quiet, but her dark eyes were soft.
"She's loud," Lena said simply.
Then, she looked back down the empty street and added in a small voice, "But I'll save the wooden blocks for Friday."
Mr. Schuett smiled, putting his arm around his daughter's shoulders as they walked back up the porch steps and inside their quiet home.

Years had passed, but some things had barely changed at all.
Now in high school, the three-year age gap between them felt different than it did when they were kids, but their bond was as unbreakable as ever.
Lena was a quiet, composed senior, while Miu was a bright, energetic freshman who still followed Lena around the school courtyard whenever she got the chance.
It was currently lunch time, and the warm afternoon sun filtered through the leaves of the large oak tree shading their favorite wooden bench.
The bustling sounds of other students chatting, laughing, and walking across the courtyard filled the air, but around the two girls, the atmosphere felt peaceful and slow.
Miu sat upright on the bench, a colorful bento box resting on her lap. She was happily eating her lunch, her small feet swinging slightly under the bench as she chewed.
Beside her, Lena wasn't eating at all. Instead, the older girl was slouched sideways, her long legs stretched out, and her head was rested comfortably on Miu's left shoulder.

The golden late afternoon light spilled gently across the park, casting long, soft shadows over the grassy lawns and winding walking paths.
A cool evening breeze rustled through the tall trees, carrying with it the quiet, peaceful atmosphere of the city settling down after a busy day.
Four years had flown by like a fleeting dream.
Now, Lena was in her final year of college, on the absolute verge of graduating, while Miu was stepping into her very first year as a freshman.
To make things even better, the two of them shared an apartment in the exact same building—their front doors just steps away from each other, their lives seamlessly intertwined just as their fathers had always hoped when they were little kids.
Of course, the dynamic between them had grown into something deeper over the years. They were together now, having officially become girlfriends right around the time Lena graduated high school.
When they finally broke the news to their fathers, it wasn't a total shock to either family—after all, the two girls had been inseparable since birth.
But Mr. Taechamong and Mr. Schuett certainly hadn't expected their childhood friendship pact to manifest into their daughters literally falling head-over-heels in love.
Once the initial surprise wore off, both families welcomed it with open arms and warm, teasing laughter.
The two girls walked slowly side by side along the paved path, their hands intertwined, fingers loosely locked together.
They eventually came to a stop near the edge of a grassy hill overlooking the city, both of them quietly taking in the stunning orange and pink horizon as the sun began its slow dip below the skyline.
Miu turned her head slightly, glancing up at Lena. The girl looked as striking and handsome as ever, her sharp profile illuminated by the warm sunlight, her expression calm, settled, and completely relaxed.
A wave of pure affection filled Miu's chest. She squeezed Lena’s long, slender hand tightly and beamed, her bright smile practically glowing in the dimming light.
"I love, love, love you!" Miu declared sweetly, her voice full of genuine warmth and adoration.

"Sorry guys," Miu said to Bam and Orm, giving them a small wave with her free hand while keeping her other arm securely wrapped around Lena.
"I think her brain is completely melted from her afternoon exams. I better get her out of here before she falls asleep standing up in the middle of the hallway."
"Right... yeah! Go ahead!" Bam quickly said, blinking rapidly as she tried to process the contrast between Lena's scary high-school reputation and her current clingy behavior.
"We'll... we'll text you about the project later, Miu!"
"Bye Miu! Bye... senior Lena!" Orm added quickly, giving a polite little bow.
Lena didn't even open her eyes to acknowledge them, only letting out a soft, low hum of approval when Miu finally shifted her feet and began carefully leading her down the corridor toward the front entrance.
With every step they took, Lena stayed pressed close to Miu’s side, her hand firmly holding onto Miu’s wrist, entirely unbothered by the curious stares of the other students passing by.
To Lena, the rest of the world was just background noise—all that mattered was going home with Miu.
—————
The crowded high school cafeteria was loud with the constant noise of clattering trays, laughing students, and the hum of air conditioning units running on overdrive.
But at the long wooden table near the back windows, a very intense study session was taking place right in the middle of lunch break.
Miu was leaned forward over the table, a mechanical pencil held tightly between her fingers as she drew neat, careful lines across a sheet of grid paper. Spread out between her food tray and her drink were two heavy algebra workbooks, a graphing calculator, and pages of dense scratch paper filled with formulas.
On her right side sat Bam and Orm, both looking entirely overwhelmed, their brows furrowed as they tried to track the complex numbers.
"Look, it's actually not that hard once you split the terms," Miu explained enthusiastically, she pointed the tip of her pencil at a long equation.

She looked down at Miu's scratch paper, scanning the complex algebra problem in less than two seconds flat with her sharp, trained eyes.
"...The absolute value step is correct," Lena muttered quietly.
"She factored it right."
Miu giggled brightly, her chest puffing up with pride as she turned back to her two dramatic friends with a triumphant look.
"See?! I told you! Lale verified it! Now write down the steps before the bell rings!"
Bam and Orm just groaned again in defeated unison, dragging their notebooks back toward them while Lingling continued to tease Lena, who simply picked up her spoon again, hiding her subtle, affectionate smile behind her soup bowl as Miu happily babbled on.
Lingling shook her head, still laughing softly as she watched Lena carefully organize her soup bowl and textbook.
"You're hopeless, as Oom said," Lingling teased, leaning her chin on her palm as her eyes scanned the crowded cafeteria looking for their missing friends.
"Where is that girl anyway?"
Lena didn't even lift her head from her paper as she answered in her usual calm, steady voice.
"Oom and Tan are together. They'll be here any minute."
Right on cue, two tall seniors pushed through the double doors at the side of the cafeteria.
Tan was carrying two heavy trays of food, while Oom walked right beside her, holding two bottle juices and looking around the crowded room until her eyes caught their usual table near the back.
"See? Speak of the devils," Lingling said, waving a hand in the air to catch Oom's attention.
As Oom and Tan navigated their way through the sea of freshmen and sophomores, Miu bounced slightly in her seat, waving cheerfully at the two newcomers.
"Over here, Senior Oom! Senior Tan!"
"Sorry we're late," Tan said, setting the food trays down on the wooden table with a soft clatter before sliding into the empty space next to Lingling.
"The line at the hot meals counter was going out the door."
"And Tan insisted on waiting for the fresh batch of fried rice," Oom added, sitting down right across from Miu and setting the cold juices down.

Lena didn't look away from the horizon right away. She felt the comforting warmth of Miu's grip, a soft, fond curve gracing her lips as she chuckled softly, her deep voice smooth and quiet.
"Thank you," Lena replied simply, her tone calm and steady.
For a moment, the park was completely still.
Then, a long, heavy pause settled over the hill. The quiet silence coming from Miu’s side of the grass wasn't the cute, comfortable kind—it was the dangerous, heavy kind that usually signaled a sudden storm.
Miu slowly let go of Lena's hand.
"Huh?" Miu said.
She turned her full body to face Lena. All the bright, loving emotion in Miu's eyes had instantly vanished, replaced by an unsettling, completely blank stare.
Her eyebrows were raised high, her arms crossing over her chest as she looked at her girlfriend with absolute, unreadable stillness.
Lena felt the sudden shift in the air before she even looked. She glanced over, caught sight of Miu’s terrifyingly emotionless face, and her brain immediately kicked into high gear, frantically replaying the last three seconds of dialogue.
'Thank you?! Did I seriously just say 'thank you' to my own girlfriend saying she loves me?!'
Panic, rare and sharp, flared behind Lena’s usually cool, stoic eyes. Her posture went completely rigid, her eyes widening as she raised her hands in quick, desperate surrender.
"Uh... I love you too?" Lena offered quickly, her voice cracking just a tiny bit at the end with uncertainty.
Miu’s jaw dropped in exaggerated outrage.
"What?!"
Realizing that 'I love you too' spoken like a nervous question was definitely NOT going to save her from sleeping on the couch, Lena completely abandoned her cool, nonchalant persona.
"I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, I WOULD DIE WITHOUT YOU! YOU'RE MY PRECIOUS BUBBIE!"
Lena blurted out loudly at the top of her lungs, her arms waving dramatically as she threw all her dignity out the window, her deep voice echoing across the open park.
