I forgot to include the specific gym thought: but lying about your diet and exercise routine, lying about steroids use, that’s an almost guaranteed way to both start discourse and engagement bait, but also a way to make yourself seem more relatable even though it’s a mirage of sorts. Reading 300 books a year or having 10% body fat - these are aberrations claiming normalcy but presented to us routinely as standard parts of the internet (un)reality we’re living in

That seems true in every sphere of entertainment. Books, music, etc. the most popular things are often terrible and good stuff goes unnoticed.
