My job is to help teens/young adults transition into adulthood. Many of my clients are on the spectrum. Several of them have been terminated from their jobs for being “too slow” or for not understanding directions that are given to them. You may be 100% capable to work, but that doesn’t mean that those jobs are willing to work with you.

I have autism and it ABSOLUTELY affects me. I’m a super hard worker, always willing to put in the hours even on days I’m not supposed to work, I treat everyone with respect and kindness, but I always get fired. Why? Because I get targeted and bullied for my autism. I’ve been working since I was 18, I’m now 21, and I’ve had 9 jobs. And finally I have one where I won’t be fired from because my boss is also autistic (my shift leads and district manager tried to target me and get me fired but my autistic general manager had my back and told me to contact HR. So now I’m safe!)

if you can’t work that something you can’t control and i hope you the best and that’s why i support all the small businesses i can online- don’t come into work weaponizing your shit bc i’m currently dealing with someone who’s weaponizing it and it’s actually hell for everyone she speaks to (which is NOT the same as not being able to handle work and knowing and still wanting to try- weaponizing is something you do knowingly and with malice)
