I don’t want anything to do with my husband’s family, but it’s bc of the way THEY treated me and the lines that they crossed and how my husband didn’t handle it. I was open, loving, caring and they took it for weakness so I removed myself.

Your DIL can’t cut your son off from you. But how you treat that DIL will affect how he interacts with you.

My son is with a young lady whom I am not overly keen on, I had hoped the relationship would run its course, however they seem closer than ever. I’ve just got to deal with it because there is absolutely no way that I will lose my son. I just have to suck it up. She is obviously providing something that he feels he needs and I respect the fact that she is always there for him. We aren’t always going to like everyone but I will treat her with kindness and respect no matter my feelings.

My son’s ex was a narcissist and she isolated him from us. We had to wait for him to see what we saw. After he left her, she had kicked him out where he was forced to live out of his car and she took most of the money leaving him to also starve. They were in a town hours away and we had no clue. So sometimes it’s the DIL that’s psycho!

my DIL cut off her mother and step father, her father, and now convinced my son to cut off his parents. There's a common denominator in this situation. The mental health issues with people in their 20s needs some serious studying 🧐

Sons distance from their mothers to please their wives yet when their marriages fail the sons go straight to the mums they ignored

Ive never understood moms who are distant or rude to their children’s spouses. I also remember hearing this Old saying decades ago: “A son is a son ‘til he takes a wife. A daughter is a daughter for the rest of her life.” Parents should always have accountability and give lots of grace to new family members.

Daughter in laws don’t cut anyone off from mother in law…. Just saying. And most daughter in laws desire a good relationship with the women who grew and watered their husband.

I’m sorry but maybe those mothers treated the daughter in law like shit. Is she supposed to put up with that?

My advice to parents would be, love your child’s partner until your child no longer loves the partner.

The thing is….it is natural for adult children to choose their partner and their children over their parents & siblings. The Bible even says a man will leave his parents to cleave to his wife. There is a reason that traditional weddings would end with “what God has joined together, let no man put asunder. You cannot compete because you do not compare!

When a son is distant, is it a mother issue or a DIL issue? I see a lot of mothers who can’t stay out of their son’s marriage and want to continue mothering. DIL recoils and son retreats.

Mother's raise their sons to be MEN. When they take a spouse that becomes his FAMILY and as in the Bible they become one. So why do so many moms feel that they should come first. My son got married and I told him your wife comes before me.

Oh my WORD! I love my DIL so much. She loves my son as I had always prayed his partner would. She is an amazing mom. She’s thoughtful and kind and I could not have picked a better person for my son to share his life with. I would move mountains for her.

It’s not true. It is completely possible for a daughter in law to have been taught by her mother to be brutally passive aggressive. I have friends dealing with this and it’s heartbreaking.
