I played a spell jammer one shot with a group... that is full extent of my being a player for 5e. after that one shot the DM said ok who wants to DM next... I responded "i dont know what im doing but sure I will DM the next one" that was 2 years ago, ive been DM for a weekly group since then. I guess ultimately my point is, Brennan I want to DM for you lol

I think too many people get into their own head and build up how scary DMing is. There's a lot of people I've played with that would actually probably be better as a DM than a player but they're too chickenshit to even try stepping behind the screen.

I've played DND for about 6 years now and I've had one character that made it to level 9 and we didn't finish the campaign. I have however ran like 7 campaigns for my friends and I actually love being the DM so it's not an issue for me
