unfortunately I don't read Russian. Only anti-Stalin historians like Khlevniuk are translated to English. In English there are some good historians on Stalin: Geoffrey Roberts, Ian Grey, J. Arch Getty, Robert W. Thurston, Samantha Lomb, Grover Furr, Domenico Losurdo... It still seems to me that someone like Kotkin is better than Conquest or Timothy Snyder. Magnetic Mountain seems like it's worth reading.
