All I know is I don’t trust anyone associated with Bernie Sanders Hasan Piker or the DSA. Fuck all of them.

FYI the DSA only has about 110k members. They're a very small subset that gets portrayed as being way larger mostly for Republican talking points.

I’m a Warren Democrat which I always think of as progressive and being willing to work aggressively within a system instead of burning it down.

hmmm i used to say i consider myself more inline with democratic socialists but i dont know if i am that far left to think we could abolish our gov or military bases etc... even though i dont disagree with their values. I guess im a progressive who isnt anti DSA 😅

DSA feels like their goal is to move the Overton window. I'm not sure how many people think removing the President and/or Senate is a realistic goal, but if you challenge their positions in our system you can get reforms that benefit everyone

Thank you for explaining this. This was very helpful. I was losing track of policy stances because everyone seems to pick political groups like they’re Hogwarts houses now.

if you don't mind could you explain what the DSA reasoning is for turning over elections of the president and SCOTUS to congress, and why they want to abolish the senate?

I'm on the farther left side of the Democratic Party, so I have my leanings, but I don't want that to be a straitjacket. I'd rather look at each policy individually and ask, "Does this actually make sense to me?" than filter everything through a group identity. I think labels are useful for orientation, not for outsourcing our own judgment.

It *is* kinda funny that the DSA peeps only run in massively Blue areas. Never in deep Red areas or even just a swing seat. And one has to wonder why...

Yall should look into the Working Families Party 💜 they’re built by and for the *multiracial* working class, endorse demsocs and progressives, and don’t just caucus to Dems but fight for third party viability (they’ve already ran independents and won without spoiling!)

I'm a progressive/social democrat, but not a democratic socialist. 😂 It can all be so confusing though.

This is true until you add the race issue to the conversation and consider that true progressivism & bigotry are fundamentally incompatible. Then you realize that DSA members who call themselves progressives and the further left aren’t actually at all. Progressives don’t excuse White supremacy tats for example

As soon as I see a Sanders endorsement I side eye and vet heavily. His judgement is suspect.

every time I take a "political id" test, like, the good ones, I'm slated as a liberal progressive, or progressive Democrat. but for some reason the "online wars" have told me I'm not. so I just work my local politics and don't worry about labels bc we're getting too hyper focused on them.

Would you be able to explain what abolishing the senate would accomplish and why they prefer the house over the senate when the senate is better representation of each state?

I feel like I’m in the middle of both ends of the spectrum. I think most in the party now are closer to the middle than on either end of the spectrum. Not to mention, each state has its own culture, economics and environmental impacts. Just like the GOP. They have old tea party, maga, Rhinos, etc. there are no pure parties. I think that’s good.

eh. DSA LA member here and while the national platform is those things I dont think most DSA members i interact with on a daily or weekly basis think things like abolishing the senate is a real target, especially now. its the goal of the old guard who are, right now, still active. but more and more new people who are joining really want something between the old guard and progressives. so while its the stated platform of the party on the website and some old guard leaders are doing press, it doesnt feel like, at least in this small section of it, its something that will drive the growing base.
