Any reading challenges you have abandoned already for the year? I started Storygraph’as Read the World challenge at the start of the year. It challenges you to read books from the given list of 12 countries. I read Violeta as part of it, for a book based in Chile. But I couldn't find books I liked to go with the rest of the prompts. I know it’s sad but I am also to blame for not researching more. #readingowlreviews I read #Violeta back in March and loved it. It took me a while to finish it as it can get too intense at times so I kept taking breaks. But overall I am glad I finished it. It’s not only a beautiful multi-generational story but it's also an account of Chile’s history from 1920-2020 Born amidst the Spanish flu and died during Covid, Violeta narrates her life story in letters to a loved one. It's more of a confession and admission of her life. We see all parts of Violeta’s life from when she is a spoilt child, to a young smart girl, an entrepreneur, and a philanthropist. For me, the best part was learning about the events that shaped the political landscape of Chile. Coups, financial debacles, dictatorship, and military rule are some of the events people of Chile lived through. It was a common scene for a lot of South American countries. I felt so uneducated and unaware while I was researching a lot of these things on Google. It's a little slow and I know from other reviews that it's not the best Isabel Allende book out there. But if this impacted me so much, I wonder what #HouseofSpirits would do to me. I am looking forward to reading more of her books. Have you read any of her works before? Recommend some please. 3.5 ✨ to this. #thereadingowl_ #IsabelAllende #historicalfiction
