While doing demo on our property, we uncovered a stash of weathered railroad ties buried beneath debris. Their rustic charm and historical character were perfect for repurposing into garden steps, fitting seamlessly with our the art studio side path. **Installation Steps:** 1. **Site Preparation:** We cleared the area and marked the desired path, ensuring the steps would be level. 2. **Cutting the Ties:** Using a chainsaw, we cut the railroad ties to the required lengths, fitting each step precisely into the pathway. 3. **Drilling Holes:** To anchor the ties, we drilled holes at both ends and the center using a heavy-duty drill and long wood bit, allowing rebar to secure the ties into the ground. 4. **Placing the Ties:** Each tie was laid in position, adjusted for levelness using gravel or sand as needed for stability. 5. **Securing with Rebar:** We drove rebar through the pre-drilled holes and into the ground with a sledgehammer, locking the ties firmly in place. 6. **Finishing Touches:** The rebar was countersunk below the surface for safety, and the ties were backfilled with soil and gravel, ensuring a seamless and sturdy finish. Repurposing these old railroad ties not only provided durable, rustic steps but also embodied our commitment to recycling and sustainable landscaping. The rebar reinforcement ensures the steps remain secure and long-lasting, adding both function and character to the garden. #gardendesign #gardening #gardenersofinstagram #recycledmaterials #recycle #landscapedesign #landscapedesigner #hammertime #veganrecipes #camplife #nationalparks #homeimprovements
