Facing this right now with a prospect. We did a FREE site visit, they got our quote after, however they decided to use the quote to acquire the items listed. Of course the products are of a cheaper brand and of course, they got various equipment having different specifications because their thought is bigger has to be better. Now, a lot more additional things are needed. The installation for the bigger items will not be the same cost as what was quoted. The material list is now short of the proper accessories. They want the installation date to be locked in without making a deposit and the items they purchased are still not delivered.

I've done dozens of kit installations. I cant see what's so difficult.If the customer buys their own goods from a vendor, the warranty on the goods will be the customers responsibility. you are only responsible for the workmanship. This isn't that difficult of a matter to sort out tbh

That’s not only the opinion, most of times, a client that buys their materials sometimes they also want Labour so cheap! They are always looking for a cheaper way to do things hence end up charging very little for Labour or sometimes even fail to. Secondly, in Kenya also customers that source for themselves there is a high probability a technician went to site, did site survey and was never paid hoping to get better deals, then client buys their products and finds someone else very cheap to do the job. This doesn’t end well in the long run. So I just walk away!

I would go to terms and agreement with the client . If you purchased the product yourself and something goes wrong that's unto you.

Mate I do It But in written Contract before Taking 50% in Advance and on Invoice we write down as Terms and Condition. All equipment is SUPPLIED By Customer No warranty and Guarantee will be Provided on Any Kind of Equipment which is Not supplied by us. Any Additional Change will be Changed. and make them sign. And it works Customer sign and agree every time. that's Call Service agreement 👍👍

I’ll install it if it’s half decent equipment, £500 a day labour. Once I’ve commissioned the system & left the premises there’s no guarantee. Once they agree with that then I’ll install it.

You see as an end user, I’m planning to get a NVR (POE) Reolink system in the future and have someone install it all for me then I can do the cameras like settings such as detections etc. I would go through what I want where and if it’s possible that way etc. To all the installers in here does that sound like something you’d do? I know most install Hik Vision but I don’t see a point when ReoLink is half the price and has more features for the budget. Hik is defo better for like medium business, warehouses and massive houses though who need the top end

It’s a red flag 🚩 walk away..the people who fit customers kit properly won’t return if there’s a problem once paid.

I've always done it. Never had any issues. usually items are new from the box. they could be sance, reolink, swann, zmodo, hilook, or even hikvision.

Yes, I've done it hundreds of times. Is usually new kit. If is used I always test it on fly leads before installation. They get 1 year labour warranty only. Any issues with the kit itself I charge call outs. Never had issues.

I refuse to fit equipment I dont provide. any faults would always be your fault. Also more risk of not been paid for your time when you can't threaten to take the equipment back.

ive been 16 years in business done it many times and out of those times, 75% of the time customer messes up some where but end up paying a callout
