For some clarity. The SS started executing war prisoners at some point during the war. When the U.S. soldiers found out 100’s were dying by shooting squad shit like this started happening, especially to captured SS. It is one of the reasons you treat POW with care because you don’t want the enemy treating POWs like shit.

some German POWs were sent to mainland America work camps and there are diaries of officers basically saying "we saw town after town of a country somehow at war, yet everyone was living like they werent" they wrote back to the absolute abundance america had and lost faith in their ability to win the war.
