Many weapons like the sai were found items. Sai were farming tools. One thing that drove me crazy with ninja Turtles 2: secret of the ooze was parents complained after the first movie. There was too much using the weapons. It was too much violence WAAAAA! So the production team decided they would use more found items, hence the wiffle bat the sausage links and the football game, etc. that way they weren’t having weapon fights. What this did is taught the kids “You don’t need ninja weapons. You can just beat on each other with your toys. Which is completely reinforcing the violence in a practical way at home because I dare say most children did not have swords, sai or nunchucks laying around the house but sure they had broom handles. Actually, I made a good deal when I was eight— I traded the neighbours kid my Donatello bow staff, which was my mom‘s old broken broom handle for a Batman action figure. I came home with Batman and my parents thought I stole it. My mom called over and the other other boy’s mother was like nope. It was a fair trade—not a smart one— that her son traded his eight dollar action figure for a broken broom handle handle, but Kevin was thrilled with it.

you could also if the tip was sharp enough to stab like grab it in the middle as in you put the pinky and ringer on one of the hooks and the middle and index in the other so you get like a stubby thing

Ruler Of Disorders and Errors :
The closet blade they are to is a parrying dagger, as you can use the hand guard as a device to catch your opponent’s weapon. But I believe that is not a conventional use of the sai. (I am talking from very little material arts knowledge and am going off of what sellswordarts has taught me and the design of the sai, so please forgive me if I am incorrect in my analysis)

Well more pairs of these I have ever seen are the blunted practice ones shown in this video. However, I have been lucky enough to come across two pairs of them more than 18 years ago that were not blunted and are damned near needle point sharp, both pair of which are currently sitting in my closet right now. It is my habit to purchase any sharpened pair I ever come across
