@meghannmcuniff: Bethany DeCollibus is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Massachusetts who was friends with Lindsay Clancy. DeCollibus testified today (Thursday, August 6, day 8 ) in Clancy's murder trial over the strangulation deaths of her three young children in their home in Duxbury on Jan. 24, 2023. Clancy, 35, was a labor and delivery nurse who was experiencing postpartum mental health problems after the birth of her third child, Callan. Her defense is that she's not guilty by reason of insanity because she was psychotic. Prosecutors acknowledge she was having problems, but they say she knew what she was doing and planned the murders. Jennifer Sprague, an assistant district attorney in Plymouth County, questioned DeCollibus about Clancy's behavior and any changes she saw after Callan was born. DeCollibus recalled asking about Clancy's trouble sleeping and "she responded that things haven't gotten any better and that she feels like a zombie." Prosecutors have implied throughout trial that Clancy is exaggerated her mental health issues, so Sprague probed DeCollibus' testimony by asking, "Was there anything about her appearance or the way she was interacting or behaving that, when you saw her, you thought she looks like a zombie?" "She seemed tired," DeCollibus answered. "But there's a difference between being tired and looking like a zombie, right?" Sprague asked. "She didn't look like a zombie, no," DeCollibus answered. "And she was able to engage with you and the other parents there, engage with her children and the other children, correct?" Sprague asked. "She was," DeCollibus answered. "Do you recall stating previously that at the party she seemed fine?" Sprague asked. "No, not specifically," DeCollibus answered. Sprague showed DeCollibus documentation of her police interview. "Does that refresh your memory as to a conversation you had with the police back in 2023 where you said that she seemed fine at the party?" Sprague asked. "Sure. Yeah," DeCollibus answered. In cross-exam, Clancy's lawyer Kevin Reddington asked if DeCollibus if she probed Clancy about her symptoms. "In other words, your friends and you and you and Erin and Lindsay were out to dinner or lunch, and you're trying to have a good time, right?" he asked. "Yes," DeCollibus answered. DeCollibus said Clancy "loved her kids." "She was warm, kind, consistent, loving," DeCollibus said. #law #crime #court
