That’s not something for me to chime in that’s for their community to come to an agreement it wouldn’t be right for me to speak on this topic hopefully things keep getting better everyone is the same inside so should be treated all the same unfortunately the world is cruel but I think there has been positive change may it keep progressing

I think it’s great! If I ever get to China I would love to go. It’s not forced labor. These people choose to work there. I’m not concerned with the critics if the workers themselves are happy with their employment.

do the little people own the park? get a say in the working conditions, direction of the company? if they do, I'd say it could be an interesting way of providing stability to a group that is so often ignored and left out. but does that make up for the 'othering' this emphasises?

I am glad that the people that work their have a safe and stable life, I also wish that they had more opportunities other than this and that this stability and community was available to them

I think it’s a good thing as long as they are performing as every day human beings and not dumbed down characters. It looks fantastic. I would hope this has led to more job opportunities in the market not less.

you said in another reply that no one with dwarfism owns or has an operational role in the business, so to me it does feel a bit exploitative, shame on the owners, but the workers have the last say in whether they're happy with their conditions working there. I would rather they have literally any other work opportunities that are equal to people without dwarfism, but I can't shame the individuals for feeling okay where they're at.

My concern is, why is the only stability consistently offered to people with disabilities to be entertainment? Are they educating people who go to the park about dwarfism? If the performers enjoy it, that’s great. Lots of people work at Disney to perform and love it and that’s great. But turning a specific group of people into a spectacle to be viewed rather than people to know just dehumanizes them.

I would patron a ‘park’ like this if it was created by, and for, people with dwarfism; the only way it could feel less like an ‘attraction’.

I think the answer can only come from the people there. If they would still work there if other options were available to them, then that's fine, but I don't think that is the case. Being the best choice among limited options isn't a flex.

I would ask who owns it? what kinda of working conditions are there? i realize the historical aspect of this, and I'm not sure ownership really changes it much.

I've thought about it a few times since I saw Warwick Davies go there with Karl Pilkington on an idiot abroad, I don't know enough really I do feel like it is exploitative but if it's owned and run by little people (I don't know if it is or not) I don't know how much that changes things, I am for community and support accommodations aspects of it as I have disabilities and I know how much it would benefit being around people with similar experiences I currently don't have that. I don't like that they are pigeon holed into the fantasy themed role as that's not everyone's cup of tea and feels condescending, I would like a fantasy themed home but I wouldn't want to be forced into a role 24/7. I think there is a lot more wrong with it than good, a fantasy themed park with homes and jobs is a fun idea but specifically only little people is a no, they're more than capable of inclusion rather than exploitation.

Is leadership also comprised of people with dwarfism? If they are truly for people with dwarfism they would put them in places where they don’t just perform, but run the business

This feels similar to the sx work debate; Most people working there wouldnt be there if they had another choice, but isnt that true for any job? There isnt two choices, shutting it down or saying it’s a perfect moral practice. Theres nothing i can say that just applies to this specific job

I knew the history, did NOT know places like this still existed. I’m torn, I feel like there is potential for spreading awareness around dwarfism through a place like that if the focus is humanizing the people working there, but then it would have to be completely owned and run only by little people in order to be ethical, and it would have to have a real focus on educating visitors on said history. If it’s more framed as a zoo exhibit then hell no

I would love to know the history of little people in China as well, was this concept of little people as entertainers also present there before the modern day or is this something that has spread from western influence?

I think it’s more important what the workers themselves feel about it than what we do outside looking in. Like, are they well paid, do they have good benefits, are they well treated by management, do they feel like they’re not being mistreated? The reason what happened historically was bad was because none of those things were done, they weren’t well paid or treated well. And if someone wants to act and preform and they’re well paid for it, that’s when I think it’s ok.
