Laws about breaks were established a long time ago as a result of labor movements. They’re designed to give people rest at regular intervals. I know it might be tedious for an office job, but it was helpful to people in labor positions.

A 9-5 job has no lunch break. An 8 hour day would be 8-5 with an hour lunch break

I work 8:30-5 and I get a 1/2 hr lunch. I don’t even leave because by the time I get to my car it’s time to go back 😭

In the UK most “9-5” jobs are a 37.5 hour work week rather than 40 hour, because they include a 30 minute lunch break

The point of the lunch in the middle is for rest and you to eat. Many people died for you to even have 15 minutes break and 30-60 minute lunch. Before they will work you 12 hours without breaks or safety.
