Okay, I get that it’s Halloween and everyone wants to dress up and have fun, but can we please stop using other people’s cultures as costumes? Like, our traditional clothes aren’t a Halloween outfit. They’re part of our culture, our history, and who we are. People actually wear these clothes with pride, and they have so much meaning behind them. We don’t take your culture or the way you dress and use it as a costume, so why is it okay to do that to ours? Just because it’s Halloween doesn’t mean everything is okay to dress up as. There’s literally so many other things you can dress up as without turning someone’s culture into a costume. I’m not trying to ruin anyone’s fun, but it’s honestly disrespectful, and I wish people would understand that. Please be mindful and show some respect because our culture isn’t a trend, a costume, or something you can just put on for Halloween and take off the next day. It’s part of our identity, and we shouldn’t have to explain why it deserves respect.
