Going out on the water, losing track of time is pretty easy to do, speaking from experience. Can be 2 to 8 hours. So easy to do. But yeah having a way to communicate is important and anything can happen, experienced or not. If this is new to the partner as they don’t camp or canoe then letting them know it can be hours and being out to disconnect is part of the reason to camp together, then giving them a heads up about the reality of spending time out in nature. Also, if no cell service, get walkie talkies so within a certain range, you can stay in touch with each other.
