Pay everything ypu can off before retirement. Save 3 to 4 months rent just in case VA and retirement pay is delayed due to paypwork issues. Have him do Skillbridge and start job hunting 4 to 5 months prior.

Yeah VA hospital proximity should be low, very low on the list. It would only serve the veteran and if you are far enough away you can get approved for community care if you really want to use VA healthcare system. Dependents don’t use VA healthcare. Plus if you have tricare.

You don’t need access to in VA hospital , if you have TRICARE you can go to any hospital in the community. The VA has community care now for those who don’t live near a VA medical Center.
