I graduated from art school here: You should insert the canvas wedges once the painting is finished and the canvas has sagged a little; You can, of course, apply an additional layer of primer, but all store-bought canvases are already primed. But in any case, I don’t mean to offend anyone with this—just a few tips. Have fun with your painting! ( ◍ • ᴗ • ◍ )

These aren’t quality canvases, you can tell. Spending a little more on materials is worth the money in the long run.

Hiii I study art and the prepping is in the inverse order, you should put the gesso first and two or three layers always changing the direction of your brush, after it fully dries you should sand it with a fine grit sandpaper and then do your white paint or the color of your preference as a foundation layer (idk how it’s called in English)

Aren’t the canvases usually primed already? I’ve heard most are but then some people will add a layer of gesso additionally. Or are you using a canvas without gesso?
