@shaller59: My beloved Flo-Jo is gone. She was an African Grey Parrot and was 38 years old. She was born in Togo Africa, that was discovered by researching her number on the band. She has seen me through so much. I rushed her to an emergency vet on Monday 8/3/26. Sadly, Blood tests and X-rays revealed she was in congestive heart failure, pneumonia and liver failure. According to the vet, birds are notorious for hiding illnesses until it’s advanced and most likely severe. I take responsibility for not being pro-active and taking her for annual check up’s. The times that I did always stressed her out and she always seemed to be in good health. It happened so quickly, on Sunday Flo-Jo was unable to stand on a perch and even had difficulty walking on a flat surface. She stopped eating since Sunday night. The vet offered medications to help the symptoms so she could come home but knowing her quality of life was no longer what it should be and no longer safe in her cage. I made the difficult decision to have her euthanized. I couldn’t bear to watch her suffer. I always thought she would outlive me. I am devastated. Please take my message as a sincere interest and concern. If you have a parrot or a bird, don’t overlook the fact that they should get annual visits to a vet. I’ll never know if I had done this if Flo-Jo could have outlived me. Please consider taking your bird for annual check ups. 🙏❤️🙏
