For context.. he told me the divorce had been finalized months ago. I had never spoken to her before that message, and he always described her as someone who was completely out of his life. When she sent me the case number, I checked it myself and saw the divorce was still open. He kept calling and texting saying it was “just paperwork” and that they had been over for almost a year. I didn’t stay outside the building because I knew he would come looking for me. I went around the corner to a coffee shop and turned my location off. She called me from her car and explained that he had been dragging out parts of the divorce and that she only found out about the wedding because his cousin posted a photo. The part that confused me most was that she wasn’t trying to convince me to leave him. She kept saying, “I’m not telling you what to do. I just didn’t want you walking in there without knowing the truth.” He still insists he didn’t lie because, in his words, they were “basically divorced.” I still don’t know if that makes it better or worse.
