@dustinreadsbooks: I’ve had their books for forever but have yet to read any of them 😅 help me want to prioritize these authors! #BookTok #bookish #reading #bookreccomendations #books
Great list. The Road is one book I still think about years later. McCarthy is a master at portraying bleak and desolate atmospheres. I also enjoyed both Katabasis and Babel, but preferred Babel. Kuang is more immersive and propulsive. Only read Notes from Underground by Dostoevsky so far and probably should have started with White Nights!

I really liked no country for old men, but gosh the movie really does underwhelm the book for me when I watched it after finishing the book. But none to less a very good read

THE ROAD. Im so jealous you haven't read it yet. I read it usually twice a year and always in one sitting. It reads like poetry and I literally cant put it down. It is dark and bleak and depressing and it really sits with you for awhile after.

Don't feel intimidated by Dostoyevsky...you may want to do a character map because a lot of Russian names run together in your mind .. but other than that, they are really easy to get into because they are so good 🥰

Definitely all the McCarthy and Franzen. Dostoevsky has always been a struggle for me. Man. I wish I could read "The Road" for the first time.

I tried the road and gave up on it. Maybe I need to revisit it. Crime and Punishment was hard to get through for me but definitely worth the effort.

My 1st McCarthy was No Country For Old Men and it was great. I’m reading All The Pretty Horses now and it’s also excellent.

Crime and punishment is actually good! There’s one part that’s genuinely scary. The hardest part is the names. They are all similar and he alternates between their first and last with no rhyme or reason!

I’ve DNF the Road. I read No Country for Old Men and All The Pretty Horses and I did love ATPH the most. Very intense beautiful prose. I did not love Babel. Very long and difficult to finish.

McCarthy and Dostoyevsky are definitely worth the hype. And I have both of those Franzen’s on my shelf as well. I have read The Corrections by him and liked it a lot.

The Broken Earth series from N.K. Jemison is incredible. The way it tells a grand story through themes of oppression and caste systems. Environmental collapse. It's both prescient and reflective. Cannot recommend it enough.

NK Jemisin was hard to get into at first, but sooo worth it! No Country For Old Men was a bit of a slog. RF Kuang - Babel is worth your time. skip her most recent book!

Cormac is personally my favorite author. Should start with ‘No Country for Old Men’. It’s very accessible and very fast paced. Will 100% keep you turning the pages. The Road is more of a slow burn.

No Country for Old Men is a great read. I actually read the book before I saw the movie. The ending still doesn’t make much sense to me in either one, so good luck figuring that out 😂. But other than that, it’s an excellent book and a great movie.
