My mum would say her tucking in services close at 9pm. So if I wanted her to put me to bed I had to be there by then.

I’ve done this with all 3 of my kiddos. Now 15, 9 & 4. I’ve never had bedtime issues. EVER. Same timeframe you set as well. 8:45-9:30ish!

Mother for 24 years. We have always had "Quiet Time" which is the 30 minute transition to bedtime.

What would you have done if she hadn’t come in within the time frame?

This is perfect. Mom also gets a little bit of down time while waiting. It’s a win for all.

I think this might be Rose specific advice and not general advice that works on most kids.

This is so true. Something that trips me out all the time is just how much other millennial moms are CONSTANTLY correcting and telling their kids what to do non stop. I don’t get it. I rarely tell my kid what to do. I give her options or I just set up our environment so the natural consequence is something I want or that needs to be done. Additionally I ask her to help me or do stuff for me all the time. If I really need her to do something I say Aria you can climb in the car seat yourself or I can put you in what’s it gonna be?

This is great! Science actually shows that a consistent wake-up time and morning light matter way more than exact bedtime. Stick to the same wake-up time and just sleep earlier the next night if needed!

I do this too with my toddler and not just bedtime anything I want him to do. I think people think that toddlers are difficult but they are in that age of testing boundaries so if you give them that power to decide (usually between two things you want them to do) they’ll happily do it. I.e “do you want to have apples or carrots as a snack?” They’ll believe they have the power to choose which they do but it’s between to decisions that are good and you wouldn’t care what they choose.
