You can dislike and talk bad the UAE as much as you want. Meanwhile in Europe, affordable housing has become so rare that renting a two bedroom apartment requires a PowerPoint presentation, three references, a motivation letter, and possibly a TED Talk explaining why you deserve a kitchen. And please, remind me again what exactly has Europe or the rest of the world accomplished over the last 20 years besides turning basic necessities into competitive graduate programs?

I've been back and fourth for more than 35 years. Never liked the place at all - just for work. Now I completely stay away. A friend of mine was thinking of going for investment, I advised against it. But I said if you do go, then walk around in the evening when it goes dark and look up. You can then observe how many apartments are in total darkness, giving you an idea that the occupancy is low - which it is. The quote here of 28% is probably accurate. Dubai is a place I guess to launder money (so they say). Its not a place I would ever live, or even work now (pay is low). Abu Dhabi is a better city; for the Middle East, Oman for me was the most pleasant - lovely people - the interior was also very interesting to visit.
