@bunmisupreme: The amount of gay men who I’ve had to validate in both their femininity and their masculinity. Helping them thru their impulsiveness . Being their for them more than their own family… like huh? And not naam one of them ever showed up for me the same . Yall need to be serious .

I was thinking the same thing when they called us fake allies. What do we gain from pretending to support? I don’t go to gay clubs or drag shows. Why do I need to pretend?

As a gay man, Ill speak from my perspective. I do think that its an exaggeration to call this whole thing a ‘benefit’. Because you’re right, it’s not really a benefit, plain and simple. What’s really the case is that from my observation, a lot of gay men are treated as attachments for straight women. Mostly due to them being men(makes sense). So it often comes with the felt sensation of never truly being considered, or being apart of the group but never really in the group. It gives the impression that straight women only want gay men around for the ‘benefits’, when in reality, it’s a simple disconnect. Gay men experience exclusion in these subtle ways from both straight men and straight women(who comprise the majority of the population). Theres a feeling of always being stuck in the middle, which gets confused with ppl only wanting them for the ‘benefits’. Thats my interpretation at least. Also you’re so right on the point about gay men not being more emotionally mature 💔😭 Ppl just be confusing acceptance with being expressive and genuine emotional attunement.

I had someone say "you only wanna have a gay best friend" like someone watched Mean Girls too many times. All my friends are women.

And dont let you be a woman, regardless of sexuality, in an only gay male space. That is what woke me up

They are not your friends. They either want to be you or be seeking & try to sleep with your man. They don't really like us. They are jealous & see us as competition

I had what I thought like a brother for life. He saw me I saw him. He was gay. And one day I realized he wanted to be me. He wanted what I was born with with and I had to break that friendship off.

I never understood the whole using gay males as a pet or prop thing because a man is still a man. I never met a gay man that was willingly letting some woman “use” him in that way without HIM getting a benefit out of it. Like money, gifts, access or invites to certain spaces. They always were getting something out of it.

I Talk A Lot :
My best friend is a bisexual male I’ve known him since middle school, since before he was “out”.. there are no exclusive benefits. The friendship operates no different than any other friendship. HOWEVER I could say he has always benefited from have a friend willing to defend him against the harassment or offenses from others people. Before he was “out” people always thought he was gay, and they would pick on him, I was able to shut any and everything down about him because he was my best friend. And til this day, I will still defend him against anyone. Many LGBTQ individuals actually benefit from having women as friends and allies.
