Y'all in the comments aren't understanding how autism works. Yes, the spinning and toe walking and covering the ears CAN be normal, but only if it happens occasionally and not consistently. Autism stims are frequent and/or constant, not just a..once in a while thing. If your child is spinning, hand flapping, toe walking, humming, lining up toys, etc every single day, multiple times a day or even all day, that is NOT typical behavior..that is atypical and a sign of autism. Y'all always say "those are normal things btw" and they absolutely are not. Yes, they can be normal, but he was displaying very obvious signs because it was frequent and consistent. I promise you, if you have kids or are around kids, you will know the difference. My oldest nephew, who turns five tomorrow, is level 3 autistic, which the the most severe, and we knew he had autism before he turned two and he was diagnosed before he turned three. His younger brother, who turned three in March, is typical, and it was very obvious that his development was WILDLY different from his brother. Lining up toys, holding toys right up to the eye, this is not typical behavior, kids who aren't autistic don't play like that..they actually build with blocks, or play with cars, or whatever, autistic kids don't do that/very rarely do that. I promise you, the signs are very obvious once you know what to look for..the difference between autistic kids and typical kids in behavior is so obvious. Everybody on earth stims, playing with your hair or biting your nails, those are stims, but autistic people stim constantly. We can't control it because it's how we regulate..typical people self regulate easily, we cannot do that as autistic people, we regulate through intense, frequent stimming and have huge, intense meltdowns that are NOT tantrums, tantrums are completely different to meltdowns. Our systems are wired differently, our brains are different, autism is neurological.

I knew before 6 months old with my daughter. Everyone called me crazy. Surprise she is 7 and nonverbal with level 3 autism. Then everyone listened to me when I said our son was not in fact copying her and was autistic himself. Fully nonverbal until 4 and is still very much autistic 😂 and then our youngest was born everyone thought he would be autistic as well and lo and behold he is not. Genetics are crazy 😩

remember, that these also count for girls! I've seen so many little girls with undiagnosed asd get called lazy, a troublemaker or just dramatic it's crazy.

I have three children, and before my third child was diagnosed with autism, I already knew—I even knew the level of the condition. When you are a mother, you can see when there is something different about your children's development.

When my daughter was young, not much was said about signs. She wasn’t diagnosed until 15 and I looked on home movies and it’s clearly there when she was a toddler.

I have a friend who is a staunch anti vaxxer to protect her kids from autism and she has an adorable small child, maybe 4 years old, who's obsessed with lining things up, mixing them up then lining them up again, specifically plastic vegitables. He's also obsessed with space and knows all the planets and fun facts about them lol

I have severe ADHD and a lot of times it’s missed in girls because they tend to have different symptoms…I had the girl AND boy symptoms. I was a walking tornado. I could not sit through a meal and my mom had to let me play and call me over to take bites. And yet wasn’t diagnosed until 15. The symptoms can be right in your face and sometimes someone just doesn’t know to recognize them! You’re a great mom!
