Happy Birthday, Grandpa! 🎉 1940S MOLASSES CAKE Recipe from A Crispy Cookies 2 T. softened butter 1/4 cup sugar 3 eggs 1/2 cup molasses 1 cup flour 1/8 t. salt 1 t. baking soda 1/4 t. ginger 1/4 t. cinnamon 1/2 cup hot water Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch square baking dish. In a bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until they become light and crumbly. Add in the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Pour in the molasses, mixing to combine. In another bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Add them to the molasses mixture, alternating with the hot water and stirring after each addition until a smooth batter forms. Pour the batter into your prepared pan, spreading it out evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Alicia’s Note: To make it my grandpa’s way, top with thin banana slices and whipped cream just before serving. Yum!
