1:12am. 2:47am. 3:31am. 4:58am. I’d lie there in the dark adding them up, wondering if tonight was better or worse than the night before. The more I counted, the more anxious I became. Every wake up felt like something I was failing. Like I should somehow be able to fix it. Eventually, I stopped. Not because the nights suddenly got easier. They didn’t. Riley still wakes when he needs me. Some nights he wants to feed. Some nights he needs a cuddle. Some nights he just needs to know I’m still there. His journey has never looked like the books said it would. He arrived early. He’s had to work so hard to grow. And he’s teaching me that progress doesn’t always look like longer stretches of sleep. Sometimes progress is simply knowing what your baby needs and being there to meet them. I’ve stopped measuring our nights by the number of wake ups. Instead, I measure them by something much quieter. Did he feel safe? Did he know I was there? Did we make it through together? The answer is always yes. And somehow, that’s enough. If your baby isn’t following the timeline everyone talks about, I hope you know you’re not doing anything wrong. Some babies need more time. Some mums need more grace. And every single night you show up for your baby, even when you’re exhausted, you’re giving them exactly what they need. 💛 #newmom #momlife #postpartum #motherhood #momcommunity
