It does not guarantee you a free Ryanair seat upgrade. If the flight is full, you’re finished. Thoughts and prayers. But if you hate paying to choose a seat on Ryanair, this is one way to see what seats are still available before you get on the plane. You check in as normal, take the free random allocated seat, then go back into the Ryanair app before online check-in closes. Go to manage booking, add extras, then add or change seats. That shows you the empty seats on the flight. Then close the app. Do not pay. Do not change your seat. You are simply having a nosy little look. Like a curtain twitcher with a boarding pass. Then when you board, you already know where the empty seats are. And yes, before anyone says it, you can just board last and see what’s left. I get it. But then you’re also the last person trying to find overhead locker space, and that is not a sport I want to play. This way, you can get on early, get your bag in a locker, and still know which seats are empty. Obviously, listen to the crew, don’t sit anywhere you’re told not to, and if someone turns up for the seat, move. You’re just trying not to spend two hours folded into 28E like a meal deal sandwich. I love Ryanair. The bargains are mint. But if I can avoid paying extra for a better seat and feel like I’ve very pathetically got one over them... I’m doing it. Would you try this?
