Jesus gave one short warning to everyone who follows Him: “Remember Lot’s wife.” Luke 17:32 But have you ever wondered why Jesus specifically told us to remember her? Because hidden in her story is a danger many believers ignore. Why did Lot’s wife become a pillar of salt? Many people say, “Because she looked back.” But was the problem only that she turned her head? If it was just one quick look, why would Jesus later tell His followers to remember her? The real problem was not only in her eyes. It was in her heart. Her body was leaving Sodom, but her heart was still there. She missed the life she had known. She missed the comfort. She missed the possessions. She missed the familiar world God was calling her to leave behind. So when she looked back, it did not simply reveal curiosity. It revealed attachment. That is why Jesus said, “Remember Lot’s wife.” Because even today, many people say they are following God, but their hearts are still longing for the world. They want salvation, but they do not want to let go of what God is calling them to leave. They want a new life, but they still keep reaching back for the old one. But you cannot keep looking back at the world and still walk forward with God. The world promises pleasure, but it cannot give eternal life. The world offers comfort, but it cannot save your soul. The world can make sin look normal, but it cannot make sin holy. When God calls you out of something, looking back can cost more than you think. So the real question is not only: “Why did Lot’s wife look back?” The real question is: What has God already told you to leave, but your heart is still holding on to? Is it a sinful relationship? A hidden habit? A worldly lifestyle? A past version of yourself? A place God already delivered you from? Remember Lot’s wife. Do not let your body move toward God while your heart keeps returning to the world. If God has called you forward, do not look back.
