@thechaosdiaries: The most beautiful village in England isn't in the Cotswolds 🥹 Welcome to Castleton, tucked into the Hope Valley with a ruined Norman castle looking down over it We explored it as a 15km loop straight from the village, starting with breakfast at Peveril Tearooms (highly recommend), then up through Cave Dale and round to Winnats Pass, a huge limestone gorge with craggy sides rising steeply either side of the road. From the top you get the Great Ridge, a long grassy ridgeline over to Back Tor and Lose Hill with Edale on one side and Hope Valley on the other, before making your way back into Castleton to grab a coffee and explore! Castleton is also the only place on earth where you'll find Blue John, a rare fluorspar mined here for centuries that was also loved by the Romans (it's been found in pottery as far away as Pompeii!) 💛 One tip if you're doing the loop: don't park at Mam Tor, park in the village instead.
