@whitehorseguitar: It might have been the hot temperatures. We’re not used to 30 degrees of heat in Ireland, and there’s no air conditioning in these pubs. Whether you’re braving a pint of Guinness, or deciding that a pint bottle, with ice of course, of the Tipperary Golden Throat Charmer is your tipple of choice, after a tired, overheated bus journey, with the air conditioning itself fluctuating from Baltic cold to balls hot, all in the space of five kilometres, along with some salty bags of Tayto and ham sandwiches, the thirst was well and truly up by the time we pulled into the Marine Bar. It was really just for a stopgap. And then this happened. A bird never flew on one wing. One thirst quencher graduated to a second. Two’s company, three’s a crowd. Three pints in, and loose as geese, we had well and truly interrupted anyone who’d had any inclination for a quiet one and a read of the paper. They were soon threatened with a good time by Brendy. Like whatever the opposite of a keening is, it became a rallying call to joy. Before we had to turn the steel horse Rebel City bound, we somehow pulled Waterford into a circle of song, into a circle of thirst quenching, into an ambush of craic . This is a bar going ballistic.
