I can’t stand this screaming on line about not getting down to root cause. Not because it isn’t important to get to root causes, but rather these influencers have NO idea what root cause is. Root causes are not simple issues. EXCUSE my extremely poor editing skills. I promise I am a way better surgeon than influencer! For instance, our issues with obesity aren’t secondary to food dye! 🤦‍♂️. This isn’t all about sugar. Root causes are multi factorial. Food deserts, socioeconomic factors, poor education on nutrition, screen time, lack of walkable cities, cost of healthy food vs cheap food due to farm bill allocation, genetics, childhood trauma, stress, menopause, etc. Claiming doctors ignore root cause is preposterous. Every major medical society addresses these issues. In my clinic we have a behavioral specialist to help patients utilize cognitive behavioral therapy interventions to help change habits, and to learn to goal set. We have dietitians to teach patients how to create healthy meals. We do cooking classes and discuss grocery shopping. We have exercise therapists that help patients work around their specific injuries to create a program that helps them build strength. We teach that surgery and medicines are just a tool. However, they are a valuable tool. Combined with lifestyle interventions we really do help people get their health back.
