Yes, there’s actually a logical explanation for that, and it has to do with ranking. By default, the King is ranked 1, while the Queen is ranked 2. So, if a woman inherits the title of Queen, she can’t simply make her husband a King because that would technically place him above her as 1. Instead, he can be given the title King Consort, which places him second in command while she remains the reigning monarch. It still the same, the spouse of the reigning monarch is the second in command The same principle applies the other way around. the title and rank are based on who actually inherited the throne.
