Ok so context none of these things are like deep cultural misconduct or something. They're just kind of sloppy ways to eat, especially in a high-end restaurant. There are only a couple main rules you need to know. 1. Don’t play with your chop sticks. 2. Don’t leave your chop stick stuck in your bowl of rice (represents incense at a funeral. 3. Don’t pass food between chop stick (Japanese pass the bones of the dead after cremation during the funeral with chop sticks). 4. A lot of the times there is a big bowl or plate in the middle of the table and everyone just grabs for their own smaller plates. When in this situation don’t use the part of the chop sticks that go in your mouth. Use the back. That’s all you really need to know

We call the last one “beggar eating” because that’s how people without a table would eat, holding their dishes and rushing to eat on the street. I don’t mind following Japanese table manners when I’m in Japan, but if you eat like that in South Korea or Canada, people will definitely look at you weird.

Different countries different manners.... in korea they dont lift the bowl cause they say only beggers hold it in their hands. While in Japan they say only dogs can not lift their bowl. I love asian cultures and their customs... maybe cause i am sub asian 🥰
